Stevensville, Mrs Lola Hummer of New Oxford and Mrs. Hillary R. Kennedy attended a DAR meeting in Gettysburg Mr. and Mrs. Garnet Kleffer and Wayne D.

Kieffer, of Washington. D. Mrs. Harvey Kreamer, of Cleveland, Mrs. Harry McEIroy.

Mrs. Floyd Bender and children, of Fayettertlle; Mrs. Eldon Dotter and Mrs. Robert Huber and children, of Harrlsburg, and Ernest Wishard and family, of Biglerville, were Sunday visitors of Mr. and Mrs.

Jonas Kieffer Issued 37,387 Book 4 Copies Adams rountians received war ration books No. 4 during the recent registration period, a count of the reports turned in by the school site administrator revealed Friday. The number was more thin 400 less than the number of ration books No. 2 Issued In the county, but clerks at the local rationing boards explained that the drop did not represent a decrease In the county'! population but failure on the part of some people to obtain war ration book No. 3, which had to be shown to secure the most recent book.

Applications are still coming in, the clerks said, for War ration book No. 3, with many people not applying at the time they were issued because they did not need the stamps at that time. Ration book No. 2 was issued to 37.865 persons, with the New Oxford board giving out 20,093 books and the Gettysburg board Issuing 17.772 books. Many Ignored Pledge Application for the No.

4 books was made by 11,589 countians, with 5.847 applying at the schools under the jurisdiction of the Gettysburg board and 5,742 applying in the THOMASVILLE Mr. and Mrs. Thaddeus Reefer, of I New Oxford area schools. Gettysburg urea schools issued 17,587 books and New Oxford area schools gave 19,800 books. The number of college students and smaller families in the western half of the county accounted for the larger number of applications, it was stated.

The "home front" pledge, which every applicant was asked to sign did not prove as popular in the New Oxford area as it was in the Gettysburg section where nearly 50 percent of the applicants signed. Of the 5,847 applicants In the Gettys- urg area 2,381 signed the pledge. Of the 5,742 applicants in the New Oxford section, 1,488 signed. Despite the smaller number of cobs issued in the current reglstra- lon there were more applicants nan during the registration for Jook two. At that time Gettysburg ad 4,939 applications and New Ox- ord, 5,563, a total of 10,502 appllca- ions.
