Nielsen reports announced Wednesday. Although it finished third to CBS and NBC, ABC jumped 3.5 points in the ratings for an overall average of 19.0 for the week of Oct.

21-27. It is ABC's best shoing this year in the network's so far lackluster 1974-75 season. CBS was first with a 20.1 rating while NBC was second with a 19.4, a drop of 4.6 points from last week. CBS had 11 shows in the top 20; NBC seven and ABC two. The overall ratings for the new season are: CBS with 20.5; NBC 20.4 and ABC 17.1.

ABC's big boost came from The Poseidon Adventure, which toppckd a field of 56 programs. One of the disappointments for last week was the poor showing of NBC's much-talked about and much-acclaimed look at the U.S. criminal-justice system, The Law. The top 10 shows were: 1-ABC.
