Plan Survey Prior To Opening Of Avenue HERSHEY, May 27 The Derry Township Supervisors, at their meeting on Monday evening, held in the Supervisors Office, East Chocolate Avenue, moved that Harvard Avenue, be surveyed in preparation to have it opened to Fishburn Road. This road is in "Field Crest" development along side the Lincoln Apartments. Nate Hose, who purchased the old Ball property appeared before the supervisors asking them to grant him more time than ten days to clean up the old balls and the Shallow place. It was granted.

Ralph Logan, chairman of the Board of Supervisors, swore into office as Fire Policemen, the following members of the fire crew, of the Hershey. Vol- untee Fire Company: Ronald Erwinn, Todd K. Pagliatulo, David W. Smith, Jeremiah M. Kling, Thomas R.

Reed, and Goerge E. Trump. Appointed to serve as members of the Recreation and playground committee along with the School District committee are Arthur Roland, with Rufus Kulp, the alternate, this in keeping with Project 70 to develop playgrounds or recreational facilities in different parts of the township. Residents and property owners are again warned to keep their weeds and grass no higher then six inches. If neglected to keep them cut, there is an ordinance which permits the town ship to do the work, and collect the cost from the property owner.

Some time was spent in dus- cussing the parking on both sides of several streets, causing traffic hazards. No action was taken at this meeting. The supervisors agreed to pay the amount of $300 to the Tri- County Planning. This service will include someone to visit their meetings and all advice and services of the group will be included. This is done under the Pennsylvania Municiple Planning Act.

They aiso discussed the complaints of sewage leakage at Learden and Mine Road, in the Glenn Acres development and on the Brookside Avenue, in the Brookside development. The Supervisors reported eleven bicycles either abandoned or stolen were picked up and are held at their quarters, and owners can have them by identifying them and paying 'the license fee of 25 cents. The Board again announced that June 4 has been set aside, beginning at 7 p.m. for hearings of Zoning Petitions' at. about 15 minute intervals, as advertised in the Patriot-News and the Lebanon Daily News, all Zoning Ordinance Hearings to appear in these papers.

Palmyra High School Holds Senior Prom PALMYRA May 27 The Junior-Senior Prom of Palmyra Area High School was held Saturday night in the gymnasium of the high school amidst white lights, blue lights, on the walls. Decorated with mirrors, glass, and plastic straws supended from the ceiling, the scene in the gym reflected the theme of the dance, "Hanging In a Limitless Light." The 200 young people attending danced to the tunes of Hal Herman's Orchestra of Millersburg for three hours in a vibrating atmosphere coalescing around about them. The entertainment was provided by "The We Folk," a four- member folk-singing group, from Annville-Cleona High School. The introductions were made by Mike Brubaker, president of the junior class. Speech Contest Is Sponsored By County WCTU MYERSTOWN, May 27 The County Women's Christian Temperance Union sponsored a bronze bar and a silver medal speech contest Sunday night in the Heidelberg Church of the Brethren.

Dale Sailer, 11-year-old son of the Rev. and Mrs. William Sail er won the bronze bar contest with a speech entitled "Headed Right." Other contestants were David Click of Annville RD 2, Monica D'Asostino of Myerstown and Ruth Weaver of Lebanon Judges were the Rev. Alton Bucher, pastor of the host church, Curtis Bucher, teacher and Mrs. May Wike Spitler, retired teacher of cha ef- ferstown.

Sharon Ziegler was the winner of the Silver medal contest. She is 13 years of age, attends the 8th grade at Elco and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Ziegler of Myerstown RD 2. Her winning speech was entitled Not So Dumb." Other contestants were Theresa Ziegler, Adam Heisey, Douglas Good.

Mrs. Earl Click of Annville and Mrs. Frederick Fulk of Myerstown were in charge of arrangements. Church Ladles Enjoy frogressive Dinner MYERSTOWN, May 27 A progressive dinner party was enjoyed by the Mr. and Mrs, Group of the Friedens Lutheran Church of Myerstown.

The dinner started with appetizers at the home of Mr, and Mrs. Kenneth Kline, the salad course was served at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Smith and the main course of the dinner at the church. The hostesses at the church were Mr.

and Mrs. Lynn Jucher, and Mr. and Mrs. James Dougherty. Invocation was given by Richard Hardy.

A short business meeting was conducted at which time officers vere elected for the new year, elected were Mr. and tfrs. Ronald Dietrich, president; ilr. and Mrs. Lynn Bucher, vice president; Mr.

Conklin speaker at the 22nd annual Memorial Day program of the west Berks area, at Bethel, will be First Lieutenant William H. Conklin, Chief of the Administrative Services Section, US Army Garrison at Indiantown Gap. Lt. Conklin is a native of St. Louis, Missouri.

He entered the active army in October 196C. On No. 11, 19B8 he was assigned to Indiantown Gap and is currently serving as Chief of the Administrative Setion. Prior to coming to Indiantown Gap, he was assigned to Ft. i Georgia.

Lieutenant Cnnklin is a graduate of Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pa. He graduted from Officer Candidate School on Nov. 22, 1907. He is married to the former Linda Marie Fleck. They have a daughter, Karen Sue.

The Lieutenant and his family currently reside at Annville, D2. Sardinia about the same size as New Hampshire but has more than twice the population 18, VFW. Mino rider, Harriett Hoff, owner, -V Becky Rome, owner, Plans For Parade Announced By Jonestown Legion JONESTOWN, May plans for the Jonestown Memorial Day parade and services were by officials of the Marlin L. Genres American Legion Post today.

The Memorial Day ceremonies and parade have been traditionally sponsored by the post since 1946. The parade will form in West Jonestown at 4 p.m. Friday and begin marching 5 p.m. and will move east on Market Street through the town square; south on King Street to Queen Street, east to Mill Street, north on Mill to Market, west on market to King Street and con tinue to the American Legion Memorial Plot at the Lutheran Church Cemetery. Ceremony Planned The cemetery program will be conducted by officials of the post.

Dennis R. Wood, post commander, said that his committee has scheduled the following program. Franklin I. Bachman will be the master of ceremony. The invocation' prayer and benediction will be given by the Rev.

Eugene L. Shiffer, of the Zion Lutheran Church, the Rev. Edward C. Charrot of the St. John's United Church and the Rev.

Grant Miller, United Methodist Church. Music will be furnished by the Northern Lebanon Senior and Junior High School Bands under the direction i of Harlan A. Daubert. Choral selections will be furnished by the Jonestown Male Chorus, directed by Henry E. Gerhart.

Guest Speaker The Hon. Frederick Gahres, mayor of Jonestown, is the guest speaker for the occasion. He is also the assistant princi pal of the Norlebco Senior High School. A basket of flowers will be placed on the lot by the local Davfd i chapter of the Gold Star Moth- KArOn I ers. They are: Mrs.

Hershey Rotary Clubmen Tour Medical Center HERSHEY, May 27 The Hershey Rotary'Club held its luncheon meeting Monday noon at the Hershey Motor Lodge attended by 90 members, seven guests and fourteen visiting Rotarians. Kenneth Hatt, presided and Dr. John 0. Hershey, gave the invocation.

President Hatt played a recording of "Hospitality Blues." The group visited the Milton Hershey Medical Center, where they were addressed by Dr. George T. Harrel, head of the Medical Center, and divided into small groups they toured the teaching section of the Center. President Hatt announced that June 4 is Work Day at Harmony Hall located near Middletown, where the Rotarians will go and assist in preparing the oamp for the handicapper's use this summer again. Earl Spangler, secretary introduced the guests, who were: Richard Miller, guest of Ed Zechman; Roger DeCarcu, guest of Walter-Kettering; Russell Stepanchak, and Joseph D' Alexander, were the guests of Sam Heineman, of Columbia.

Sunktr Hill Missionary Reports On Work In Africa BUNKER HILL, May 27 The Rev. David Hornberger. missionary home on furlough rom Kenya. Africa, was the in Bunker Hill Church on Sunday evening. Rev.

Hornberger showed nic- ures of his family, native Christians and other missionaries at work in Kenya which he described as a beautiful country, He also showed pictures of a arge variety of animals that jan be found in that area. He also showed the large modern buildings and many others presently being constructed. Following the pictures and the there was time for questions from the audience. One question was regarding the cars seen in one of the pictures of a church service, do the natives lave cars? The answer was that daily increasing numbers the natives are buying cars. One question was regarding his four young children.
