The new index will be included in the regular daily report beginning January 2. The new method of computing bond prices was designed to fill a need created by recent confusing changes in the bond market, particularly the Increased popularity of convertible issues that often times obscured the real movement of the market. Convertible and comparatively inactive issues have been excluded from the list.

In constructing the new index, the interest rate on the bond has been taken into consideration, rather than merely taking an arithmetical average of a variety of issues bearing different interest coupons. TREXOSn, Associated Press Financial Editor NEW YORK, Dec. 30. (JF) Extensive year-end readjustment of speculative accounts about an irregular price movement in today's stock market.

Prices headed upward at the opening but turned heavy around mid-day when fresh selling broke out in the copper, rubber and merchandising issues. Many of the early gains of 1 to 5 points were cut down, and several of them were converted, into net declines by early afternoon. This was the last day In which stocks could be sold the regular way for the purpose of establishing income tax losses, and it was apparent that much of the day's selling was for that reason. Tax sales for cash may still be made tomorrow but stocks sold in the ordinary manner on that day will not be cleared until January 2. Filing of a bankruptcy petition against the Stutz Motor Car Company of America, Incorporated, was one of the most interesting developments of the day's business news.

Ford Motor plants are reported to have enlarged their payrolls but news from the other industrial centers was rather negative in character, due to the shutdown and reduced operations incidental to the inventory season. Call money was firm at 6 per cent, with indications that the rate would not go above that level, despite the over four hundred odd miles of service. In cases where the rate is other than 5 per cent, the figure has been converted to the 5 per cent equivalent before averaging the prices.
