While he's out the Riddler makes off with Robin and straps the boy wonder to a table, placing his young head in a vice. Mean hilt' back at the discotheque, Batman has revived.

But the police figure he's loaded (drunk) and won't let him go after the boy. At this point, the segment ends, and the question is asked: "Is this the end of our dynamic duo? Tune in tomorrow same time, same That's right, the chapter will wind up tomorrow night. Tonight, at least, if only because of a big promotion effort by ABC, "Batman" should have a great audience. Whether it can maintain that audience remains to be seen. For our money even though there are many parts of the show which seem to stay within the realm of inman-ship that is intended, there are others which go beyond and become mere silliness.

Frank Gorshin as "The Riddler," steals the show, and it's worth watching if only to catch him. Adam West as Batman and Burt Ward as Robin performed with the gusto necessary for their roles. And Jill St. John well, she's not only exceedingly easy to look at, but she's good in her part, too. It's the scripts which will make or bivak this show, and the writers are going to have to work overtime to avoid going so far out that they're out of sight altogether.

By JOHN IIEISNER Democrat and Chronic TV-Radio Editor The representative of Moldavia begins to cut the huge cake, symbolic of the friendship between the United States and his country. Suddenly the cake explodes, splattering those nearby with frosting and sending a small article into the air. A little parachute opens, and gently lowers the article to the people below. It carries a riddle. The police, showing a lack of something or other, can't answer it.

So the call goes out. Batman! And from that point on that dynamic pair of pure-at-heart do-gooders, "Batman" and "Robin" battle the nefarious and dastardly "Riddler" and his gang with all the fantastic means at their disposal. That's the way it'll go tonight on Channel 13 when ABC's "Batman" debuts at 7:30. The touters of this show have tried their best in the past several weeks to sell the idea that "Batman" is "so far out that it's in." After a vi viewed the opening episode in a special showing via video tape, we have to agree that "Batman" certainly is far out. However, we're not so sure that it hasn't gone from far out, to in, and right back out again.
