Taos Day School students will exhibit their science fair projects Wednesday (Feb. 18) at Taos Pueblo. Top placing projects will go on to the Northern Pueblos' Agency Science Fair Feb. 24. Winners there will go to the regional science fair in Albuquerque March 6. Taos Day School students have done well in the last few years, sending some finishers all the way to nationals. Engagements Ortega/Rael Jonathan Rael and Melissa Ortega The engagement of Melissa Ortega of Questa to Jonathan Rael of Questa has been announced. An August wedding is planned at St. Anthony's Parish in Questa. Her parents are Lawrence and Rosalie Ortega of Questa. She is a graduate of the University of New Mexico and a member of the Golden Key Honor Society. She is employed by Kesselman-Jones, Inc. Her fiance is the son of Marcus and Jana Rael, also of Questa. He is attending the University of New Mexico. Sepeda/Cordova The engagement of Maria Rose Sepeda to Daniel James Cordova has been announced. The wedding is planned Saturday (Feb. 14) at First Baptist Church of Taos, with Pastor David Romero officiating. Her parents are Maria D. Porta of Taos and Frank Saltzman of South Dakota. Her fiance is the son of Willie and Clara Cordova of Denver. Maid of honor will be Yvonne Holgate, and best man will be Chris Stewart. Bridesmaids will be Cindy Romero and Kristie Saltzman. Vigil, who preceded her in death. She was a lifelong resident of Taos and a longtime employee of J.C. Penney. OBITUARIES After a long illness, ROY OAKES died of AIDS at 1:20 a.m. on Jan. 31,1998. Oakes had moved to Taos In 1995 to pursue his passion for writing. Donations in his memory may be made to Bastyr University AIDS Research Center, 14500 Juanita Drive NE, Bothell, WA 98011. A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15 at 1437 Mesa Vista Road. ALBINO "AL" L. GRESLIN, 85, a resident of Albuquerque for 15 years, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joan; three children Larry Greslin and wife, Freda, of Ennis TX, Margaret Jorgensen and husband, Ted, and Donna Barnett and husband, Jack, all of Albuquerque; four grandchildren, Jancy Hayes, Lence Jorgensen, Erica Jprgensen and Paige Barnett; two great grandchildren; and two sisters, Rita Kane and Rosina Krejei of Lead, SD. Mr. Greslin was born in Belle Fourche, SD on March 4, 1912. In March 1935 he went to work for the Canyon Corporation In Maltland, SD (a subdivision of the Molybdenum Corp. of America). He worked there as a miner, shift boss, and mine mechanic until February 1943 when the mine was closed. He was transferred to trie Boriana Mine in Yucca, Ariz., and worked there until 1945, at which time he was transferred to Urad Mine in Empire, Colo. In February 1946, Mr. Greslin was sent to the Mcly Mine (Molybdenum Corp. of America) in Questa, NM, where he was general manager and consultant from 1950 until his retirement in 1980. Services were held Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. Pallbearers were Ted Jorgensen, Jack Barnett, Larry Greslin, Lence Jorgensen and Bob Tiffany. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Lupus Foundation, 3931 Carlisle NE, Suite 112-C 87110. French Mortuary 1111 University Blvd. NE. AMELIA V. GARCIA, 89, of Albuquerque passed away on Feb. 4, 1998. She was preceded in dfath by her husband, Cristobal R. Garcia, her daughter, Cecilia Romero, and her sister Minnie Martinez. She is survived by her children, Alfonso E. Garcia and wife, Heidi, of Farmington, Magdalena Gale of Salt Lake City, Utah, Meliton Garcia and wife, Clara, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Chris Garcia, Jr. of El Paso, Texas and Evelyn Potter of Rio Rancho. Also surviving are her sisters, Juanita Martinez and Elvira Vigil; brother Nick Vigil and wife, Ida; 20 grand children, 61 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Funeral service was held on Feb. 7, 1998 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Interment followed at the Mlera Family Cemetery. Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home HAL DENNIS YODER, 88, of Taos, formerly of Ruidoso, passed away on Feb. 5,1998. Mr. Yoder was a graduate of Snyder High School In Snyder, Texas and was in the second graduating class from Texas Tech University where he received a bachelor's degree In agriculture. He was a supervisor of the Farming Industry at Mescalero, NM with the Indian Service from 19391946. For many years he was involved in farm equipment sales and owned a Farm Implement Dealership in Balli'nger, Texas. He was employed for 15 years at the Charles llfield Co. as a wholesale hardware salesman. For the last 25 years, Mr. and Mrs. Yoder lived In Ruidoso prior to moving to Plaza de Retiro In Taos to be close to their son and daughter-in-law. Mr Yoder was preceded in death by his son, Tommy Joe Yoder in 1972; a brother Lyman James Yoder and sister Margaret Catherine Yoder. Mr. Yoder Is survived by his wife, Marcetus Yoder; and his son Dr. Terry D. Yoder and wife, Stephanie. Also surviving are his sisters, Dr. Ruth Marie Ackers, Dr. Virginia Pearl Moore, Genevieve Angel Pope and Mary Frances Mickle; brothers, Theodore O. Yoder and Fred Allen Yoder; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and many. nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held Monday, Feb. 9, 1998 at Las Cruces Cemetery in Taos. Mr. and Mrs. Hal Yoder have been lifelong Methodists. Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home J.C. CANTU, 74, of Taos passed away on Feb. 6,1998. Mr. Cantu was.a longtime rancher, registered sheep breeder and a car sales representative for 50 years for the Ford Motor Company. He is survived by his wife, Ursula Cantu; his children, Reggie Cantu (Janice) of Ajo, Ariz., Eugene Cantu (Jean) of Santa Fe, NM, Waldo Cantu (Lacy) of Taos, Steve Cantu (Linda) of Taos, Tamara Cantu of Phoenix, Ariz., and Jeremy Cantu of Taos. Also surviving are his sister, Lydia Willingham (Neal) and brothers, Ruben Cantu (Angie) and Alfonso Cantu (Sophia); five grandsons, five granddaughters and two great grandchildren. An evening service was held at Rivera Chapel on Monday, Feb. 9,1998. Funeral service was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Tuesday, Feb. 10,1998.
