HEADS Greenbag Opened At Council Meeting Here; No Surprises Found There "were no surprises in the greenbag opened last night by Mayor Irvin M. Wertz, all of the incumbent officials being reappointed and unanimously confirmed by the Council. They are: City Clerk, Scott McKane.

City Attorney, Ellsworth R. Rou- lete. City Tax Collector, Charles E. City Engineer, Street Superintendent and Building Inspector, Samuel Greenawalt. Market Inspector, Raymond Smith.

Assistant Market Inspector, W. T. Staub. Clock Winder, C. L.

Mobley. Fire Chief, Max Hoover. Accountant. George E. Slaybaugh.

Park Board, H. R. Rudy, W. H. Reisner and John S.

Kausler. Water Commissioner, to succeed A. E. Albert, deceased, Daniel E. Kemp.

All of the incumbent standing committees were also reappointed by Mayor Wertz. A motion to purchase an automobile for the fire chief was killed by a vote of three to two. The motion was made by Councilman Lushbaugh of Ward 1 and seconded by Councilman Nigh of Ward 4. These two councilmen voted the measure but the others voted in the negative. After the motion had been defeated.

Mayor Wertz appointed a committee composed of Councilmen Bowman and Lushbaugh to confer with representatives of the respective fire companies regarding their sentiment in-respect to the purchase a special automobile. Part of this number will be used in the work at Boonsboro. Historical facts show that the Baltimore monument was not completed until 1S29. The cornerstone was laid in 1S15. The Boonsboro monument was completed, as far as they intended to go at that time, and was dedicated on July 4, 1F-27. A part of the ruins is still standing and the site provides a commanding view of the surround ing country.

It was used by Union troops during the Civil War as a lookout. It has been found that the Boonsboro monument was of superior craftsmanship and built by masons whose art is now all but lost. The spiral staircase in the center was an example of splendid workmanship. The site of the monument has been given to the state forestry department by the Washing- top County Historical Society, park will be built at the site, the monument restored and the road to the park improved. The monument is 54 feet in cir conference at the base and was originally 15 feet in height.
