Alex Bowman, who has been studying vocal art in New York, gave two deliRhtiul solos, with James Elmer Brown as accompanist. Mr. Bowman ia gifted with a wonderful voice, and a successful', career in grand opera is predicted for him by friends and critics. Miss Isabella- Dillard was present as guest of Miss Ellen Echols, and Miss Glula Frieman was Introduced and warmly welcomed as a new member of the club. Miss Madge in behalf of the club, gracefully presented a charming wedding present to Mrs.

Robert Baker, (Miss Ruby Benjamin,) who made appreciative ack.nowledment of the gift. Mrs. Mary Becker, president, read an invitation from the- Klwants Club for a danee to be given as a feature of Kawanis "Ladles' Night" at West Virginian hotel, on the evening of June 22. Conrad Brevick, of the Chamber of Commerce, spoke in behalf of the homo talent play, "Tbo Whole Town's Talking," which will bo given hero next Thursday and Friday evenings, for the benefit of local athletic projects. Mr.

Various Interesting points were discussed by the different members of the clnss and a systematic method of conducting the claBs was outlined by Mrs. Iyooney, The meeting was opened by scripture reading and prayer by Mr. Mutter, followed by an opening song, "When we all get to Heaven" sung by the audience accompanied by Miss Evely Crantz, on the piano. Delightful refreshments were served, after which the class was entertained by singing of the different members of the class, Mrs.

Stott playing the piano. Little Francis Looney sang the, "Blue Ridge Blues" with Miss Kathcrine Claytor as accompanist. Those present were: Mrs. Mutter, Mrs. F.

Silver Tea The Woman's Missionary Society of College Avenue Baptist church held a "silver tea" Thursday evening at the church, a large number being in attendance. The program pertaining to "Our Missionary" was very interesting, and waB followed by a. solo by Miss Hilda Thornton, with Miss Kathleen Chapman aa accompanist. A delightful pageant, "The Seven Keys to Unlock Baklpato's Heart" wus splendidly given by Milton Tlnsley, Rives Jones, Gretta Thompson, Marguerite McNeal, Gladys Tickle and William Abrams. The program closed with "a chain of prayers by five of the ladies, after which a "china shower" was held, a large njtmber of attractive dishes being received.

J. J. Penn, Albemarle street, entertained, last evonlng with a pretty informal rook party, In compliment to her guest, Phyllis Penn, of Greensboro, N. C. The home was lavishly decorated with rambler roses and mountain Ivy, and during the evening delicious light refreshments were served.

The games were enjoyed at four tables. Several pleasant social affairs are being planned among the young people, in courtesy to Miss Penn and other attractive young ladies visiting in the city. League of Voters The League of Women Voters will meet thft afternoon ut 3 o'clock at the Y. W. C.

The hours will be from 8:30 to 10. Pretty Rook Party As a special courtesy to Misses Ethel and Imogen Littlejohn, who are leaving city In the near future, and to MISB Nettie B. Jnn- kin, of Lexington, guest at the home of her cousin, Miss Louise Du Bose, a charming informal rook party was given Friday afternoon by Miss Du Bose at her home on Stowers street. The attractive hostess was assisted during the afternoon by her mother, Mrs. W.

J. P. Cofer, 1808 Dearborn street Monday evening at 7:30. There will be a contest on "Life of as studied in previous meetings. This being the close of the second Quarter, members are requested to bring dues, and all are urged to be present.

Laurence Tierney Honored Citizens of Blueiield are much pleased with the honor recently conferred upon Laurence Tierney, of this city, who was awarded the "Yale Cup" at Tome School, Port Deposit, where he was a graduate this year.
