FARMS RESTAURANT 1-70, West of Salina, KS Namath bombs; "Kids" revamped By JOAN HANAUER NEW YORK (UPI) Joe Nam- ath has been dumped and his "Wa- verJy Wonders" permanently benched by NBC.

"Who's Watching the Kids?" Fred Silverman, who has ordered the show reworked before it returns to the air after a series of pre-emptions. Since the NBC chief is known to have faith in teen star Scott Baio, who he brought on "Happy Days" as Fonzi's nephew, best guesses are that the show will slant increasingly in his direction. "Diff'rent Strokes" will replace "Wonders." It stars Conrad Bain (Arthur on as a millionaire whose housekeeper has wrung from him a promise on her deathbed that he will adopt her two sons. The streetwise Harlem boys, ages three and 12, are played by Gary Coleman and Todd Bridges. Bridges was a regular on "Fish." Also on hand is talented Charlotte Rae as the housekeeper's replacement who threatens to quit because, "I don't do windows and I don't do boys." NBC juggl as ratings By JOAN HANAUER NEW YORK (UPI) NBC will allow some of its shows that are hitting poorly for Nielsen averages to take batting practice on new times later this month a possible preliminary to deciding what stays and what goes.

"W.E.B.," of course, already has gone and will be replaced as of Thursday, Nov. 2, with "David Cassidy Undercover" in the 9 p.m. time slot. The show, which casts Cassidy as a rookie undercover cop, was patterned after a part Cassidy played last year in NBC's "Police Story." Cassidy's "Undercover" role originally was scheduled to air Saturday, Nov. 4, in the 8 p.m.

time spot. That time period will be taken over by "Sword of Justice" which, after a two-hour presentation Nov. 4, drops back an hour into 8-9 p.m. No announcement has been made yet on what will fill the later time period. But it's the end of October that has a dazzling schedule and you'll have to keep careful watch on local listings to make sure you don't miss a favorite show.

The schedule boasts such peculiarities as "Dick Clark's Live Wednesday" being broadcast on Thursday, Oct. 19, in place of "Project U.F.O." "U.F.O.", a show that isn't matching its popularity of last year, moves that week to Friday, Oct. 20, when it takes the place of "The Waverly Wonders" and "Who's Watching the both of which are weak links and could be blamed for dragging "Rockford File" ratings down with them. The following week on Thursday, Oct. 26, "U.F.O." gets bumped and "Quincy" delayed an hour for a movie of the week.

That ought to delight Jack Klugman, already upset about his show's poor ratings this season and blaming the decline on NBC chief Fred Silverman's scheduling "Quincy" on Thursday night before the deceased "W.E.B.," instead of in its old Friday slot. But then "Rockford" is having its own troubles, surrounded by failing shows fore and aft. On Oct. 27 one of Willardishost HOLLYWOOD Comic-actor Fred Willard, who played Jerry Hubbard on the TV series "America 2-Night," will be the host of the Saturday telecast of "NBC's Saturday Night Live" at 10:30 p.m. The reason why "Wonders" went off and "Kids" needs revising are to be found in the Nielsen ratings at the bottom.

In the Nielsens for the week ending Oct. 8, the already cancelled "W.E.B." was in last place, "Who's Watching the Kids" was tied for next-to-last with the Ford anniversary "Salute to the American Imagination," and that duo was preceded by "Waverly Wonders." NBC is in pretty good shape in the ratings, in second place for the season (nobody figured to beat ABC), and with the World Series coming up could wind up the top network for this week in the Nielsens. Of course, that leaves CBS at the bottom, where they have been for the last couple of weeks even without the competition of the Series on NBC. In sports, ABC's play-off games played only fairly well, with the Yankees vs. the Royals pulling better than the National League Dodgers vs.

Phillies. As a matter of fact, the Yankees had a hard time out-rating "Little Women" on NBC, while the champion Dodgers did even worse, edged out by "Dick Clark's Live Wednesday." lineup booster them gets preempted and one delayed, with "Waverly Wonders" moving ahead a half-hour for the Halloween animated special, "Witch's Night Out" and "Who's Watching the Kids?" off the air for the evening. There is a distinct possibility, of course, that "Kids" might be off the air for good by then. Speaking of mixups such as "Dick Clark's Live Wednesday" appearing on Thursday, there's another one to annoy the calendar-conscious this week. What is "Weekend" doing on Thursday, Oct.

12? Until the four-day week becomes a reality, most people's weekends don't start until Friday. And speaking of weekends, NBC could wind up with a strong Saturday night if "CHiPs" can keep up the good work and David Cassidy draws as well as might be hoped. "Sword of Justice" hasn't had enough of a Nielsen outing yet to know what its audience will prove to be. AAC exhibit features Nebraska artists The Marymount College October art exhibition features the work of three Nebraska artists. They are Ron Bishop, Mike Tegland and William Gross.

Their paintings and drawings have been done in the mainstream of contemporary art and are experimental, said Robert Hower, Marymount art department chairman. Tegland was a visiting at Marymount recently. He was awarded a Purchase Award at the Joslyn Biennial.

The sequel to "The Poseidon Adventure," which grossed more than $125 million, will be shot at the Burbank Studios and on locations at sea and along the Pacific coast.

Speaking of ABC, rumor has it that "Welcome Back, Kotter" and "Operation Petticoat" might be yanked from their Monday night ratings low. "Kotter" could be switched to Saturday, combining with "Carter Country." "Apple Pie" would be junked it's only a matter of time and "Petticoat" also could be dropped.

The ten top network programs for the week ending Oct. 8, according to the A.C. Nielsen were: 1: Three's Company; 2: Mork Mindy: 3: Happy Days; 4: NFL football, Dallas vs. Washington; 5: (tie) BJ and the Bear (NBC Wednesday movie) and Taxi; 7: Barney Miller; 8: American League Championship, game 9: Carrie (CBS Tuesday movie); 10: 60 Minutes.
