30 Sunday. September 15. 1996- THE TENNESSEAN SHOWCASE iwwvwwwTFFWfPiim 'Hamlet' to be a nobler CD-ROM The Hollywood Reporter LONDON In what is believed to be the first Bard multimedia game, Castle Rock Entertainment has entered into a joint venture to create a CD-ROM spinoff of its upcoming ATaLeofTwO Parthenons movie Hamlet, directed by Kenneth Branagh. The film, now postproduction, has a cast The CD-ROM, which will be Macintosh and Windows compatible, has the working title of Elsinore, after the fictional location in Denmark where William Shakespeare's most famous tragedy takes place. It will re-create the film's sets in 3-D virtual reality and have the ability to cut to matching shots from the film, said Isbouts.

The object of the game, like the play, concerns avenging the death of Hamlet's father. But, unlike Shakespeare's tragedy, the player then has to prevent the deaths of those who are killed in the original story and place Prince Hamlet on the throne. Hamlet, the movie, will be released by Columbia at Christmas. that includes Branagh, Derek Jacobi, Billy Crystal, Robin Williams, Charlton Heston, Gerard Depardieu, Jack Lemmon, Julie Christie and Kate Winslet. Producers of the game have been given unlimited access to footage from the film, uuuu according to Jean-Pierre Isbouts, president of Los Angeles-based Pantheon Productions, a partner in the joint venture.
