Senator Dennis Byars presented the address, Dr. Ken Shibata, campus director, presented the class, Dr. Joe Renteria announced graduates with distinction, and Priscilla Allen, program supervisor of practical nursing, presented pins to the nursing class. Deaths Charles Blosser Charles H. Blosser, 94, Concordia, died Saturday, December 30, 1989, at St. Joseph Hospital in Concordia. He was born September 7, 1895, at Malta Bend, to Quincy and Bettie Gauldin Blosser. He came to Norway, from Saline County, Mo.

On October 20, 1921, he was married to Isabell A. Collins at Belleville. He attended Kansas State University. He enlisted in the Army during World WarL In 1923 he learned to fly. In 1988 he was awarded the Kansas Aviation Award for being the oldest licensed pilot.

He operated Blosser Motor Concordia, for many years, and served as mayor of Concordia for two terms. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife, Isabell of Concordia; a sister, Nadine Whitebread of Concordia; a brother, Loyd of Belleville. Funeral services were held January 2 at the Presbyterian Church in Concordia, with Revs. Darrell Silkman and David Seward officiating. Military graveside services were conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

John Kieffer John C. Kieffer, 64, of Belleville, died Monday, January 1, 1990, at Asbury Hospital in Salina. A rosary service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, in Tibbetts- Fischer Chapel, Belleville. Funeral services are at 10 a.m.

Thursday, January 4, in St. Edward Catholic Church, Belleville. Rev. Henry J. Kieffer, Colby, will officiate.

Burial will be in St. George's Cemetery, Munden. Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home is in charge. Clarence Stensaas Clarence B. Stensaas, 92, died Wednesday, January 3, at Republic County Hospital, Belleville.

He was a rural Concordia resident. Funeral services are pending from Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart Funeral Home. Elmer Roubinek Elmer Clarence Roubinek, son of Frank and Emma Chopp Roubinek, was born in Narka, March 26, 1906, and died at Republic County Hospital in Belleville, December 25, 1989, at the age of 83 years, eight months and 29 days. He received his education in the Smith Center and Island Rural School in Narka, graduating from the eighth grade. He was united in marriage to Mary Mortinson, July 30, 1945, in Wibaux, Mont.

He was a retired carpenter. At the time of his death he was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church of Fairbury. While living in Bismark, No. he had his own band under his own name, and in Washburn, No. he was in the hotel business.

In the late 1920s he had a grocery store in Narka. He returned to Narka in 1969 and was active in the Cuba concert band. Preceding him in death were his parents, and his wife who died in 1982. He is survived by his brother, Leonard of Narka. Funeral services were held December 28 from the Presbyterian Church (USA) in Narka, with Pastors Beverly Leonard and Sherman McCormick officiating.

Interment was in National Cemetery in Narka. Milton (Mick) Freed Milton (Mick) Freed was born March 2, 1906, north of Scandia on a farm in the Republican River bottoms to John G. and Hilda Marie Hallgren Freed, and died at Republic County Hospital in Belleville, December 30, 1989, at the age of 83 years, nine months and 28 days. The family moved northeast of Courtland when he was a young child. He grew to manhood on the homestead and attended Willowdale country grade school.

He farmed with his brother, George, for many years, living with his mother. After his mother's death, he moved to Courtland, where he lived until his health failed and in 1980 he moved to Heartland Care Center, Belleville. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his brother, Glenwood of Scandia; sisters, Irene Moe and Ruby Reed of Scandia; brothers, Clark of Loveland, Leonard of Belleville, Marion of Colorado.

Pleasant Cemetery, Courtland. Ila Sjolander Da Mae Sjolander, daughter of Jesse L. and Mary L. Mohler Peters, was born west of Formoso, May 31, 1930, and died at her home in Scandia, December 26, 1989, at the age of 59 years, six months and 25 days. She attended Bluebird Rural School near Formoso, then Formoso Grade School.

She graduated from Scandia High School in 1948. She was united in marriage to Alvin C. Sjolander, November 28, 1949, at Kansas City, and to this union one son was born. Except for a few years spent in Kansas City and Los Angeles, she lived her entire life in the Formoso and Scandia area. She was a member of Am ana Lutheran Church and American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a half-brother, Jesse Eldon Peters. She is survived by her husband of the home; one son, Scott A. Sjolander of Independence, one brother, John H. Peters of Rio Rancho, N. one sister, Dora L.

Reed of ElDorado. Funeral services were held December 29 at the Amana Lutheran Church of Scandia, conducted by Rev. Robert Crofton. Interment was in Riverview Cemetery. Louise Lewis Louise M.

Lewis, 72, Clyde, died Monday, January 1, 1990, at Republic County Hospital in Belleville. She was born October 17, 1917, at Marshall, to Joseph and Bernadette Guimond Ouellette. January 14, 1936, she was married to Charles Melvin Lewis. He died July 1, 1980. Mrs.

Lewis lived most of her lifetime in Cloud County. She worked as a housekeeper at St. Joseph Hospital for 15 years. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and VFW Auxiliary, both of Clyde.

Also preceding her in death were her son, Jimmy, one grandson, one granddaughter, two brothers and one sister. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Shirley) Donley of Belleville; two sons, Darrell of Wichita, Don of Salina; four sisters, Maxine Danielson, Olive Haskins, both of Clyde, Isabelle Gentry, Concordia, Antoinette St. Aubin of Marshall, nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services are at 10 a.m.

Thursday, January 4, at St. John the Baptist Church, Clyde, with Revs. John Walsh and Don Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Clyde. A rosary service will be held 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday at Chaput Mortuary, Clyde. Memorials may be made to Hospice of North Central Kansas. Elbert Macy Elbert B. Macy, 80, Manhattan, died Monday, January 1, 1990, in St. Mary's Hospital, Manhattan.

He was born June 9, 1909, in Rooks County, the son of William C. and Almeda Macy. He attended Woodston High School, Fort Hays State Teachers College and graduated in 1930 from Kansas State Agricultural College. He received a master of science degree in 1939 from the K-State Agricultural College. He married Mary O.

Strnad, June 2, 1932, in Cuba. She died October 19, 1966. He married Geraldine S. Reynolds, August 13, 1967. She survives.

He began a teaching career in 1930 at Cuba, and later taught in Mankato, Abilene, Manhattan and Woodston. A former journalism professor, he retired in 1974 from Kansas State University. He served as a communications officer in the Pacific during World War and retired as a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Naval Reserves. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Rooks County and Manhattan, Sertoma Club, Three Valley Car Club, Stagg Hill Golf Club, VFW, American Legion, Phi Kappa Phi and Sigma Delta Chi He is also survived by three daughters, Janet S.

Mailer of Storrs, Judy M. Willingham of Manhattan, Joleen M. Thompson of Ottawa; one son, John W. Wednesday in the First Congregational Church, Manhattan, conducted by Rev. Robert L. Carlson. Interment will be in Valley View Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Manhattan, with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church or the KSU Foundation for Basic Cancer Research.

The Edwards-Yorgensen-Meloan Funeral Home, Manhattan, is in charge. LaVern Rinehart LaVern Edward "Chic" Rinehart, only child of Bert and Emma Rinehart, was born December 5, 1910, near Glasco, and died December 28, 1989, at St. Joseph Hospital, Concordia, at the age of 79 years and 23 days. He and his parents resided on farms in the Glasco and Concordia area as well as living in Norway. He attended grade school at Fisher Creek School north of Glasco and graduated in 1931 from Concordia High School, receiving a vocational agriculture diploma.

September 10, 1936, he was united in marriage to Alice Mae Holgerson, and to this union one daughter was born. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1986. They farmed northeast of Jamestown before moving into town in 1937. He worked for Anderson Implement, Boyd Oil Company, City of Jamestown, and in 1972 retired while employed by Cooperative Service Association. He was a member of the I.O.O.F.

Lodge, Jamestown. At the time of his death he was a resident of Mt. Joseph in Concordia, and had previously resided at Cheyenne Lodge in Jamestown. He is survived by his wife, Alice of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Anita) Cline of Republic; two grandchildren, Mrs.

Brad (Paula) Hobelmann of Belleville, Colleen Miller of Republic; two aunts, Mildred Rinehart and Catharine Bond of Glasco. Memorial services were held at Chaput- Buoy Funeral Chapel in Concordia December 30, with Rev. Roberta Faulkner officiating. Interment was in Jamestown Cemetery. Alva Persinger Alva Persinger was born October 30, 1904, at Republic, and died December 9, 1989, at his home in Hastings, Nebr.

He was 85. He married Marie Imler, March 19, 1930. They lived in Republic until moving to Juniata in 1946 where he worked for Mid-West Distributors. They moved to Hastin 6 'JO 5. He also worked for Western Land Roller in Hastings.

Survivon ore his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Darlcne) TroBaugh of Denver, Mrs. Jack (Shirley) Kincaid of Kansas City, two sons, Eugene of Hastings, Marvin of Hurricane, Utah; two sisters, Lillie Warren of Cedar Creek, Daisy Johnson of Lincoln, one brother, Guy of Plattsmouth, 12 grandchildren; five grandchildren. Services were held December 12 in Butler-Volland Funeral Home chapel in Hastings, with Rev. Clifford Reynolds officiating.

Burial was in Juniata Cemetery, Juniata, Nebr. Eva Barricklojv Eva Aldea LaNoue Barricklow was born January 17, 1898, at Concordia, and died at the Concordia Nursing Home December 29, 1989, at the age of 91 years, 11 months and 12 days. She was married to Edward William Barricklow, May 16, 1917, and to this union two sons were born. She was a longtime resident of Courtland, where she served as a telephone operator, librarian, city clerk and worked at the Courtland Journal. She was a member of St.

Edward's Catholic Church, Belleville. She was preceded in death by her husband, and a son, Russell. Survivors include a son, Edward, of Alamagordo, N.M.; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at St. Edward's Catholic Church, Belleville, the Rev.

John Lahey officiating. Burial was in Courtland Cemetery. Happy 16th Birthday! We Love You!
