Bulut spends five to six hours a week at the Downers Grove hospital doing a wide variety of tasks. Besides sitting at the flower desk, she chairs a hospital art committee and works in the volunteer office, the surgery family waiting Shelby Bulut room and the ICU reception area. She is also part of the pediatric orientation program.

And while the flower desk is the most enjoyable part of her volunteer work, the surgery waiting room is the toughest. "I am the liaison between the doctor and the family, and it is hard to keep track of everything," she said. "The families are emotionally drained and it is the hardest emotionally on me." Maybe one reason Bulut relates well to the patients and their families is because she and her family has been well-served by Good Samaritan over the years. "I do it because it helps people and the hospital. The hospital couldn't do what they do without the volunteers.

It makes me feel good," she said. This isn't Bulut's first taste of volunteering.
