Gets Academy ittnent DAVID IVERS CABROLLTON David Ivers has been chosen for entrance to the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colo. He is the eon of Mr. and Mrs James Ivers of Eldred. Other area youths chosen for the academy previously this year are Scott D.

Ingram of Fieldon and David H. Jennings of Pleasant Hill. Ivers will be a 1965 graduate of the Carrollton Community Urilty High School this year. lie is president of the student councfl of the school, was a Na tional Merit semifinallst, was awarded the Header's Digest Merit Scholarship, was a finalist in the Illinois Division of the National Youth Senate Pro gram, is a member of the National Honor Society and was a member of the varsity football, basketball and track teams. Ivers will report at the academy June 28.

He will undergo seven weeks of basic training plus military airmanship, and a survival course of possibly a week before the beginning of regular classes. Staff Sgt. George W. Marth, son of George S. Martin of 3316 BeDe Alton, has been decorated with the U.S.

Air Force Commendation Medal at his retirement In ceremonies at Scott AFB, m. Sgt. Harvey L. Gfllls, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Gillis of 522 State White Han, has won the U.S.

Air Force Commendation Medal at Otis AFB, Mass. Gillis was awarded the medal for meritorious service as communications supervisor at Fuchu Air Station, Japan. He Is now assigned to the 19th Air Refueling Squadron, Otis, which supports the Strategic Air Command mission of keeping the nation's intercontinental missiles and jet bombers on constant alert. Gillis, whose wife is the former Arlette M. Ortola of Morocco, is a graduate of White Hall High School.

1, Brighton, participated in Royal Flush 10, a North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) combat reconnaissance training exercise in Central Europe May 18-20. Haag is a fuel specialist in the 66th Tactical Reconnaissance Whig at Laon AB, France, a unit of the U. S. Air Forces in Europe which constitute the major air component of NATO for the defense of allied countries. Royal Flush competition is being staged to provide reconnaissance training for selected unit of NATO nations.

Fireman DavM J. SchoeMer, USN, 3537 Thomas Alton, is currently serving aboard the destroyer USS Eugene A. Greene, engaged in the Joint U.S. operation hi the Dominican Republic. U.S.

forces were ordered into the strife-torn island republic after the breakdown of law and order and authorities there could no longer guarantee the safe evacuation of American citizens. Since U.S. forces have taken part in the operation, Atlantic Fleet ships have evacuated more than 3,000 American citizens and other nationals seeking safety.
