AYCE'S OMMENTS Doggone things have sure changed since I was a boy. Even the weddings have changed. Funny thing about these modern weddings. After the ceremony is over they scatter like blackbirds and the bride and groom run off to New Orleans, New Ybrk, New Kochelle or some other seaport town. (Most of the time they never go any farther than Houston it sounds better to say they went a long way).

I lived close to old man Henry jBraggin and I went over to his house every time he "lost" a girl. But they didn't run off over there. They cooked a good dinner and everybody eat 'em up real good. At the modern the tears fly freely, but out in THE HEARNE DEMOCRAT, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 1941 the country everyone was happy. The boy was happy over his bride, and the folks were glad to get "Shed" of the girl so that nobody cried.

But. after all, weddings are a mighty fine thing. You know two can live as cheaply as one. (At least that is what the married fellows told me when I was single), Football prognostications Hearne 14, Marlin 0. In the Southwest: Baylor 20, Hafdin-Simmoris 0.

On the other hand the Eagles are anxious to continue their winning ways so the fans should be in for a treat.

Marlin. won easily over Franklin, 20 to 0 last week but I am picking Hearnejto win their third game in a' row. Little Bobby Allen Has Crowd Appeal "Little Bobby" Allen, the- pocket battleship of the Hearne football fleirtriias captured the fans fancy in the first two games the Eagles have played this season. Weighing only 135 pounds but equipped with a nice pair of legs, the fleet little back has scored three of the touchdowns and had two long runs called back because of penalties. Several fans have asked why he is not used in the same backfieid with Abbott.

The answer is that they are both ball-carriers by trade and play the same position. As long as the Eagle linemen continue to block as they have in the first two games, all the backs will 'carry the Joke 'From The Golf Course One of the best jokes I've heard on the golf course lately was pulled last week. I overheard two fellows talking on another fairway. Here is what they said to each Other: "How many do you lay? Oh, I lie five. Yea, you are lying alright, you're laying six." Nova Over Louis I may be climbing out on a limb but I am taking Lou Nova to whip Louis Monday night and become the next; heavyweight champ.

In the Conn fight Louis looked to be slowing up and I believe Nova has a chance to outpoint him. The 200-pound Nova would be a popular champ as he has the looks and is a friendly Sport Fans to Enjoy Next Few Months With Louis-Nova fight the 29th, the world series in October, and the football games from coast to coast the sports fans are sure to enjoy the next few months. Locally the football games at Wood Field will be the major attraction. Golf will continue to be played through the fall and winter, when the weather permits. Tim Barnett Likes His Uniform One of the proudest young fellows I've seen lately was Little Tim Barnett of the football games last week.

He was dressed in his new military uniform and looked as if he was about to bomb the Wilhclmtrasse. It is doubtful if any of the power- mad dictators of Europe are as proud of their uniforms as little Tim. Letters From Boys In the Service From Lowery Field, Denver, Colorado, John Porter Black writes: I am studying photography in the nit- corps technical school here, and only have three weeks left in my course. Then I will move to Sacramento, California. The government spends $9,000 training each student and the treatment is swell.

I get The Democrat every week and bm pulling for the Eagles to win regional this year. KEEP 'EM FLYIN'. for the letter. John. I wonder how.my head would look from 10,000 feet.

Popular Willie Sander Transferred to Brenham. Willie Sander, Mgr. of the A. P. store, was transferred to Brenham this week, and Hearne lost one of the most popular young men ever to live in our city.

He was a director in the Chamber of Commerce, and Scoutmaster. He was also one of the best golfers in the city. I always got a kick out of watching him hit a golf ball. He could make it "travel a fur piece." 'Besides all those achievements, Willie was very friendly toward all the beautiful young ladies. Knocking 'Hound Dr.
